Sally Forth (Update: Sally has been adopted!)

Update: Sally has been adopted! Sally Forth is a sweet bay mare who came to MHARF from a large ASPCA humane seizure in North Carolina in early 2016. She stands 15.2hh and was foaled in approximately 2011. We believe she is a Westfalen (a German warmblood breed) due to information from the ASPCA humane case.  At intake Sally had severe trust issues and was extremely shy of being caught. During the summer of 2016 she went into training for our 2016 Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse with trainer Derek Kohlhase of Dart Ranch. Sally came a long way by Challenge time and was started under saddle, but because Derek felt it would be best not to push her beyond her comfort level at the time, she competed in-hand during the Challenge.  Sally has continued her training with Derek over the winter thanks to the sponsorship of a kind person who knew it was in Sally’s best interest to stay working at a slow and steady pace. She is doing remarkably well and is proving to be a nice, quiet mare. Sally is also very smart and sensitive so will require a knowledgeable and experienced adoptive home! She shows potential to be a good horse for someone who wants to do both some dressage work and trail riding. She could also do some hunt seat and possibly some lower level jumping.  Sally was recently featured in an article on the ASPCA website: After Lives of Neglect, Two Horses Transition from Terrified to Trusting.
