Monte (Lighter Riding Only)

Monte is a dark bay White Sands mustang who came to MHARF in December of 2016 from South Dakota humane case (from the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros. You can see more details on this case HERE). He was a stud at intake but was gelded shortly after he came to us. He was foaled in approximately 2014 and stands 14.2hh. He has nice thick bone and is a nice mover. Monte was unhandled at intake, but he spent the summer of 2017 in training with the Scott Mork team to compete in our Promise of the Future training competition on September 16th, 2017.

Monte was then placed with trainers Mykayla and Aubreanne Dockter in our 2018 Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse. They competed successfully, winning first in three classes and bringing home the 2018 Trainer’s Challenge Reserve Championship. Monte was adopted at the event and had several good years with his adopter but has now sadly been returned to MHARF due to an injury that has left him as a light riding/companion-only horse.

In May of 2022 Monte was diagnosed with a navicular bone fracture in his right front hoof (fracture is in the wing, not the center). Monte’s previous adopter has provided him with extensive veterinary evaluation and treatment. He is pasture-sound and also suitable for lighter riding. He does trot and canter during turnout with no problems.  He does not require any meds for pain at this time.  He is in foster care/training at Anderson Acres. Sara has been taking him out on trail rides and she reports he is calm and really seems to enjoy the trails  If you are interested in learning more about Monte, please contact us and we will be happy to share more of his extensive veterinary history with you.
