Hello!
This is Kim, Our Boy Elroy’s trainer with some great updates and photos for you! He is really progressing nicely. I think I finally have his trust and that is a big thing for Elroy. He is so sweet and wants to be a good guy, but is still unsure of some things.
I have spent many hours with him on the ground, working with standing, tying, leading, lunging, loading in the trailer, picking his feet, desensitizing him and scratching that sweet spot behind his ear. He now gives me a little nicker every time he sees me and comes for attention right away.
Elroy is standing nicely to be saddled, bridled, booted and blanketed. He has primarily been worked in a Western saddle and snaffle bit, but I have had him in an English saddle. I have not been able to get up on his back yet, but we are getting closer every day. He is not a horse you can push or rush into things. He needs to take things slowly.
He is lunging well with nice transitions, over bridges and tarps and has even been over some jumps. He loves to go out on the trails with my horse, Cota. He almost seems to get excited to get out and go.
I truly believe Elroy will make someone a really great horse! He has a big heart, is very smart (sometimes too smart) and absolutely gorgeous!!
Until next time, Kim & Elroy

Hi Everyone! My name is Elroy! I am a 3 yr. old Thoroughbred gelding and came to this new place about two weeks ago and met Kim (wow, that trailer thing she put me in was scary, but I made it just fine)! She told me that she’s my trainer and she is going to help me be a great horse and eventually go to a great home. I was not so sure about that. I liked being in my big pasture all day running free and getting a scratch or two every now and then, but making sure never to get too close.
After a couple days, I decided that Kim wasn’t as bad as I originally thought. She came with food and would sit with me and just talk. Eventually I let her brush me and pick up my feet. When I started coming up to her she put me in this pasture with, my now best buddy, Durango. He is an almost 4 yr old Arabian gelding. I didn’t get it, every time Durango heard Kim, he went running to her. Well, she must not be bad at all!!
Since then, we have been working on lunging, my ground manners (I think they are fine) and what Kim calls “desensitizing”-I call it scary!! She put that funny western saddle and headstall thing on me and that wasn’t too bad, but I would rather her to just stay next to my head and scratch me. She saddled me up and took me out on the trails the other day with her Buckskin, Cota! I really liked that and Kim says I was really good, so I got an extra treat!! She keeps telling me that soon she is going to ride me, but I am still not so sure about that. That is scary stuff!!
Well, I better get back to my buddy, Durango. He is already laying down sunning himself and I would like to join in! Talk to you all soon with my next update!!!
