2019 “Promise of the Future” In-Hand Training Competition
In 2017, MHARF developed a new training competition called “The Promise of the Future” In-Hand Training Competition for Young Horses. This training competition (or as we like to call it for short: the “POF”) was started due to the number of horses in our program every year who are too young to start under saddle but who are still in great need of training from the ground. The POF competition, now in its third year, takes place during the annual MHARF Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse which is to be held this year on Saturday, September 7th, at the Leatherdale Equine Center on the University of Minnesota St. Paul campus. The competition consists of a Halter/Condition class and in In-Hand Obstacle/Trail class. The competition is limited to 5-8 entrants and the “students” will be horses currently in the MHARF program who are over the age of one year but under the age of four years (and who are not started under saddle). This is an in-hand only competition and no mounted work will be allowed during training or competition. We will be awarding prize money, but the exact amount is yet to be determined. We will have more details on that when we have the information is available!
