OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO KNOW BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT:
We do charge adoption fees for our horses. The fees vary quite a bit depending on the horse (training level, age, size etc.). We do not post these fees on our site because they are subject to change depending on ongoing training. If you would like a current fee quote on a specific horse, please feel free to Contact Us.
Mares adopted from MHARF cannot be bred. Adopters are asked to sign a contract with a non-breeding clause.
Any equine adopted from MHARF cannot be sold, traded or given away. It must be returned to us if the adopter cannot keep it for any reason. We do this to ensure that every equine who has come through our program has a safety net and never again finds itself in a bad situation. If you would like to view our adoption contract before filling out an application, please Contact Us and we will be happy to send you a copy. If you find that the adopted horse is just not the right fit for you, we are always happy to work with you (within a reasonable time period) to exchange it for a different horse. Our main goal is always to make the best possible match between horse and adopter.
We don’t require a fancy, expensive facility in order to approve your application, but we do require a safe one. We cannot approve any facility where a horse will be kept in barbed wire fencing. All steel t-posts must be capped with plastic or vinyl caps (these can be found at any farm supply store and at various online retailers). Additionally, any metal-sided shelter or stall the equine may have access to must have wooden kickboards at least 3 feet high. If you have questions about any of these criteria, we are always happy to advise.
