Kaitlyn Fedewa: I have been riding horses for as long as I have been alive. I have been horse crazy just as long. By the time I was two, I was happy to ride without assistance on our adopted Arab/Welsh pony. After watching a Rodeo Parade, I found out about 4-H Drill Team and fell in love. The next year, I enrolled in 4-H. I have been a part of the Isanti County 4-H Drill Team for 8 years. Through 4-H, I was able to learn different training and showing styles and entered every class I could. I was able to attend the Minnesota 4-H State Horse Show for Drill Team, English Pleasure, Equitation, Trail, and Training Project. In an effort to find out if I wanted to have a career in horse training, I bought an APHA broodmare and her outgoing colt. After weaning the colt, I retrained the mare and found her a new home. I competed with the colt in the 4-H Training Project and went to State. I am currently training an energetic 2018 Arabian colt that I won in the 4-H Why I Want An Arabian Essay Contest.
I train using Parelli Natural Horsemanship methods. When I was 12, I got an Appaloosa gelding who we later found out was an ex-gamer. He ran out of fear and was a very anxious horse. Through Parelli, he has become an entirely different horse. Instead of running around barrels, he is now jumping over them after discovering a love for jumping. We have turned his forward movement into a strength of his by using him to compete in distance riding. On that horse, I became the 2018 Upper Midwest Endurance (UMECRA) Junior Rider Champion. I am planning to attend the University of Minnesota for Equine Science and pursue a future working with horses.
I am looking forward to being a part of the Trainer’s Challenge and seeing what kind of talented horses Sugarfoot and Foxy will become.
