Maxine
06/16/23: Maxine has been adopted!
Maxine is a Tennessee Walking Horse mare who was foaled in approximately 2005. She was an intake from a Sept. 2021 case in which we assisted Equine Allies, Inc., in northern Minnesota to place horses whose owner was no longer able to provide the care they needed. Maxine was severely underweight at intake. She was being fostered for us at North Gait Horse Company (thank you, Abbie Schramm!) where she was on a careful refeeding program and was treated for ulcers. Despite being given everything she needed to thrive, by early December it was clear that she needed to be in a heated facility. She was then moved to Perquestrian Acres where she had a stall in a heated barn. We want to thank Tara Perkins at Perquestrian Acres for caring for Maxine over the winter and spring and managing her safe refeeding program. We also want to thank Jodi Smith-Shepeck for sponsoring Maxine’s care for many months, including her chiropractic care by Interlaken Centre, and we want to thank Armstrong Equine Massage for giving Maxine massage therapy. Maxine has now been moved to a new foster home where she will have more pasture available. She is still in need of more chiropractic care for an issue with one hip and is still in our “rehab” program.
