Richard

Richard is a buckskin gelding who was foaled in approximately 2016. Just as Maria Enge Hhstables says in her post (see below), he needs a very special home with a horse-person with experience with stallions. Richard is gelded but still retains a lot of studdy behaviors. He also has an issue with sight (cloudiness from cataracts due to past trauma) so will need an adopter who has experience with horses with sight limitations. We don’t know a lot about Richard’s past but it definitely included some trauma along the way. Thanks to the enormous amount of time and patience Maria and all of her helpers at HH Stables have given him, his improvement has been phenomenal since he first came to us in late 2023. He is a beautiful gelding with a lot of potential for the right person who has the experience to continue working with him. If you are an experienced horse-person interested in learning more about Richard, you can email us at [email protected] for more info and contact number. However, before making an inquiry, please make sure to read the entire post below. Thank you!
Meet Richard. He is a beautiful 8 YO buckskin QH that was recently gelded (6months post surgery). Semi Blind- cloudy eyesight from past trauma.
He is very well trained- all of the buttons but he has some shortfalls.
Studdy behaviors;
Food aggressive- we will not feed anything in the paddock as Richard will approach demanding the grain/treat.
Constantly on the watch for all of the horses. He is very vocal and will call everybody when any horse moves from pasture to pasture- sometimes he will pace.
Challenges dominant geldings- behaves well with mares.
Gets really worked up in the arena- will turn to kick at person, bulldoze and strike. I have worked him in the arena enough to be safe but we mostly have avoided arena work and hit the trails where he is an absolute gem. Leads, follows, W/T/C, water, bridges, hauling, tying -all great.
All of this being said, he needs a special home. One who understands studs. He has shows progress in the attitude department but it may take him a long time to overcome these behaviors (if ever).
