Gingersnap

Update July 2025: Gingersnap has been in training with Sarah Kolbinger this summer and is doing wonderfully! She has had groundwork, been ponied, been ridden lead line and independently with just a halter. Sarah says she is progressing very quickly and that some family is going to be very lucky to adopt her!

Update 10/2024: Nilla is now weaned and both she and Gingersnap are available for adoption.

Gingersnap is a 11.3 hand pony mare  (foaled in approximately 2011 or 2012) who came to MHARF in a September 2023 Carlton County humane case.  She was confirmed in foal at intake and on 05/02/24 she gave birth to a champagne roan filly we have named Nilla. Gingersnap is a good and protective mom. She will be available for adoption after Nilla is weaned later this year.

Skittles (Adoption Pending)

Update 02/14/25: Skittles is doing very well with her ground work thanks to Jeanie at HH Stables. We are hoping she will advance to her under saddle training this spring. This is a really nice mare. Skittles is large-pony size, standing at 14hh.

Update 10/2024: Pixie Stix has been weaned and Skittles is now available for adoption.

Update 03/21/24: Skittles gave birth to Pixie Stix,  a healthy palomino filly on 03/20/24. Both mare and foal will remain in our rehab program until Pixie is old enough to be weaned late summer 2024.

Update 10/20/23: Skittles (who the vet estimates was foaled in 2020) has been confirmed pregnant by blood test through UC Davis. She will remain in our rehab program until after she foals and her foal is weaned.

Skittles is a young chestnut mare who came to MHARF from a September 2023 Carlton County humane case. Skittles has not had a lot of handling in the past, but she is coming along very well.

Tally

Tally is a young chestnut mare (foaled in approximately 2020) who originally came to MHARF from a September 2023 Carlton County humane case. She had been in a herd with stallions but has been confirmed to NOT be in-foal by bloodwork sent to UC Davis at intake time. Tally had no previous handling when she came to us, but  she is now halter broke and friendly. Tally is available for adoption to an experienced person who can continue with her training.  She has only had ground work and has not been started under saddle, nor is she suitable for beginners.

Hazel

Update 04/25: Hazel is available for adoption at this time. Thunderbolt was weaned and adopted in 2024. Since that time Hazel has just been enjoying the good life at her foster home. Hazel is a friendly mare but is not yet broke to ride.

Update 10/11/23: Hazel and Thunderbolt were discharged from AEVS and are now enjoying life at HH Stables. Hazel will be available for adoption after Thunderbolt is weaned in late spring of 2024.

Update: 10/04/23: Hazel continues to improve with treatment at AEVS. Thunderbolt is doing very well.

Update 10/02/23: Hazel and Thunderbolt were transported to Anoka Equine Veterinary Services on 09/30/23 so Hazel could receive in-hospital treatment for a uterine infection.  She is currently receiving I.V. fluids, antibiotics, pain meds, and uterine flushing. Thunderbolt is also receiving a course of antibiotics. Hazel’s milk is drying up, so Thunderbolt is on supplemental feeding of Mare’s Match Foal Milk Replacer.

Update 09/29/23: Hazel gave birth to a big palomino colt early this morning. In honor of the rumbling thunder outside during the foaling, we have named him “Thunderbolt”. Mare and foal are doing well. Hazel is being treated for an udder abscess, but Thunderbolt is nursing just fine. (And how nice to have access to a warm and spacious foaling stall for these two at HH Stables while the cold rain poured down outside!)

Hazel is a liver chestnut mare (foaled in approximately 2006) who came to MHARF in a September 2023 Carlton County humane case. She is in foal and is due sometime in October. She is currently in our rehab program and not yet available for adoption. She is friendly mare. We will post more information soon.

Tilly (Companion / Light Riding Home Only)

Tilly is a sorrel grade quarter horse mare who was foaled in approximately 2005 and stands approximately 15hh. She originally came to MHARF in 2020 because her owner could not give her the care she needed. She was adopted in 2021 but was recently returned because her adopter could sadly no longer keep her.  She is broke to ride but she was diagnosed with navicular syndrome and currently requires daily equioxx. Tilly’s most recent radiographs show progression of the disease, so we are not recommending her for anything but a companion or very light riding horse. She is currently barefoot, comfortable, and pasture sound.
