Norman (Adopted)
Norman is a 2008 15.1hh Paint gelding. He originally came to MHARF as a yearling. His most recent adoptive home has sadly had to return him due to a change in their circumstances (not through any fault of Norman’s).
Angel (Angel has been Adopted!)
Angel is a 1999 14.1hh black and white pinto mare (Saddlebred/Arab/Welsh). She was originally surrendered to MHARF several years ago because she had an umbilical hernia her owner did not want to have repaired due to the cost. We took her in and paid for the surgery and then sent her into training when she was healed up. Angel has been adopted twice but has been returned both times due to no fault of her own. She is a nice mare with good ground manners. She is good for the vet and farrier and is an easy keeper. She is broke to ride and is currently back in training with Marirose Berner. Because Angel has been moved around so much in her life, it is very important that her next home hopefully be a “forever” home!
Liberty
Liberty is a 13.3hh bay pinto mare with one blue eye. She was foaled in approximately 2006 and came to MHARF from the 2013 Crow Wing County humane case along with her filly Wisp. Liberty competed successfully in the 2014 Trainers’ Challenge. She then spent the summer of 2016 in training with Maddie Kanda.
Butterbean
Here’s a great opportunity for someone looking to adopt a FANTASTIC horse. Butterbean has been returned to MHARF due to a tragedy in her adoptive family. Her original adopter did an amazing job with her. She is a 2005 Percheron cross who stands approximately 16.2hh. She has a wonderful temperament, is broke to ride and drive (should be ridden with bitless bridle or hackamore). She is current on all vet work, including dental, and is scheduled for farrier asap. She is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime horse! Currently located in Milaca.
Agatha (update: Agatha has been adopted!)
(Update: Agatha has been adopted!) Agatha is a 13.3hh bay mare who came in during a May 2016 Mahnomen County abandonment/neglect case. She is approximately 16-17 years old. Agatha and the other horses from this case had been running free for quite a while and had gotten used to avoiding handling–so they were all a bit pushy and headstrong. However, she’s a nice horse who has obviously had some handling in the past and she has now learned some very good ground manners. Agatha was covered in burdock at intake and also had one of the worst tick infestations we have ever seen. She also had extremely sore and swollen eyes. Upon examination the vet discovered she required bilateral entropian surgery (eyelids flip inwards, causing lashes to rub on corneas). She had the surgery and has recovered nicely. She is a much happier, calmer girl now that she is no longer in constant discomfort! Agatha only stands around 13.3hh but she is a big bodied mare. She has very solid legs and feathering–so possibly has some draft horse in her. You can tell by the way she moves that she probably has some Arabian in her as well. She is up to date on all vaccinations, coggins, deworming, and farrier care. Agatha really loves to be in the barn and is a very quiet and tidy mare in her stall–but she does best with a hay bag.
