Thank you to Emily for this update on Eowyn (formerly Electra). This pretty Arabian mare came to MHARF from a 2017 St. Louis County humane case and competed in our 2018 Trainer’s Challenge with trainer Natalie Linders. Emily has been great about sending us regular updates and we really love to receive them!
“She’s so darn smart. If I know there’s going to be a loud noise or engine or even when she was getting her teeth floated, all I have to say is “noise” and she prepares herself. She will touch her nose to my open palm when I say “hand,” which is great for bending and flexing. She also knows stand, wait, back, walk/trot/canter, turn, naughty (lol), and a few others she’s starting to understand. I have no interest in dressage or any sort of showing or eventing, so I have really made verbal cues a part of our relationship. We also use only a halter and reins, no bridle. She loves my disabled son, Finn, and is incredibly gentle with him. They like to play with a giant ball. Finn is very proud of his ‘AO’.”

Thank you to Macy for this update on her adopted mare Raine (formerly known as Amber). What a perfect team!
“I just wanted to send a quick update on Raine (Formerly known as Amber) who I adopted a little over 3 years ago! Over the three years, our relationship has grown immensely and it is amazing to see how much more confident she has become. She truly is my heart horse and I trust her with my life.
We also had a lot of fun this summer. We went on lots of trail rides, participated in a Parelli cow clinic, and trailered over to our local state park a few times. She was amazing with the cows and acted like a natural! She had a lot of fun pushing the cows around and was extremely confident. We are hoping to trailer over to our local state park more this fall once all the bugs are gone. She is an amazing horse and worth her weight in gold!
Thank you again for allowing me to adopt her, I am lucky to have her as my partner!
I attached a few pictures of our adventures.”

Thank you to Kylie for this update on King of Spots! She says the “crabby old grandpa” is still the “love of her life”.. He’s retired from riding now due to his advanced age but he still loves getting lots of attention. King of Spots is a Saddlebred gelding who came to MHARF from a 2011 Anoka County humane case. He competed in our 2012 trainer’s Challenge with trainer Colleen Carter and then found his forever home with Kylie.

Thank you so much to Colleen and the rest of Emma’s adoptive family for letting us know that this sweet mare passed away last week. Emma originally came to MHARF from a humane case in 2013 and was adopted in 2014. We are so glad she was able to have 6 great years in a loving home:
“In the spring of 2014 we had the privilege of welcoming Emma to our home to keep our gelding company after losing his buddy of 10 years. For the past 6 years they have lived and protected each other in a most endearing way.
Emma passed away peacefully June 10th at 32 years young. She was loved dearly by us all and will be surely missed. Thank you for the honor of caring for her and the joy she brought our gelding and he brought her.”

“Eleven years with my heart horse. Eleven years where, at this point, it’s hard to find a person who knows me that doesn’t also know Lulu.
This little horse has been with me every step of the way through middle school, high school, undergrad, and now grad school. We’ve lived in four states, traveled to many more for shows and events, and have tackled every challenge together. From the USEF/Equus Foundation Hall of Fame, winning Nationals, and competing in front of 10,000 at the Midwest Horse Fair Star Search to visiting nursing homes, campus, and participating in clinics and day camps, Lulu has touched countless lives with her story of sheer determination and love for life. These days, she’s my constant in the current chaos of the world and we’ve been content to just laugh and play at liberty or go on hikes. Even in these quiet moments together, I’m constantly in awe of all that she’s become.
Her life has defined mine as much as I have hers, and I am so thankful that all those years ago she took a chance and decided to trust an eleven-year-old girl.
Happy gotcha day, Lulu.”–Aimee
