Princess (Adopted)

Update 09/11/23: Princess is now at HH Stables for a training assessment. She recently went on a trail ride at Sand Dunes State Park and did very well! She is a little rusty as it has been some time since she has been ridden, but she has the basics and will now be getting some refresher work done. Princess is a percheron and is a big mare. She was foaled in approximately 2005-2006.

Update 07/13/23: Princess has now come to the MHARF farm. We are sorry to report that her baby, Raisin, did not survive. You can read more about that sad news from Save the Brays here.

We are giving Princess some time to settle in before we do any training assessments on her. She is a nice mare. Though technically not available for adoption yet, interested parties can contact us to discuss adoption.

Princess was signed over to MHARF by her owner so she could remain with her baby, the mule Raisin, recently taken in by Save the Brays Donkey Rescue while she continues receiving care at the U of M. We will post updates when we can. (Princess is NOT available for adoption. She will remain with Save the Brays and her foal for as long as necessary).

07/03/23: We are very happy to report that Raisin’s mama, Princess has now been signed over to MHARF by her owner so that she will be able to stay with Raisin at the University of Mn Leatherdale Equine Center and with Save The Brays Donkey Rescue as long as her baby needs her. We will be covering the costs for Princess to stay with Raisin at the U of M and to have her own vet check up. You can read all about Raisin and her journey with Save The Brays Donkey Rescue on their page. We know many of you have already made donations to assist with Raisin’s veterinary care, but if you would like to help out with a donation towards Princess’s care and her board while she stays close to her baby at the hospital, any amount is much appreciated!

Baby Goat

Shotzie (Adopted)

Shotzie is a grade paint mare who came to MHARF in June 2023 because her owner could no longer give her the care she needs. She is a nice mare with good ground manners. She was foaled in approximately 2011 and stands around 15hh. She has now had all of her vaccinations, coggins test, dental work, and farrier care. She is broke to ride and is currently at HH Stable for a training assessment and refresher. Her trainer reports that she is suitable for an intermediate rider and up. She is sensible, safe and a fast learner. Knows her go, stop, and turns, but not a ton of higher-level training. She loves people and attention.

King (Adopted)

King is a Tennessee Walking Horse gelding who was foaled in 1996. He came to MHARF in May 2023 because his owner passed away. King is an energetic gelding who certainly doesn’t act like he is 27 years old. He would do best with other geldings because he does get a little protective of mares in a herd. King has good manners and is broke to ride, but we have not had an assessment on him yet as far as training level. He would also make a great companion horse for another gelding. He stands approximately 14.1hh.

Lisa (Adopted)

Lisa is a young pony mare (foaled in approximately 2014, standing 10hh) whom we were called out to pick up after she had been found running loose along a busy county road in early May 2023. She had been chased by cars and on foot by several people, finally being roped and dragged into a holding pen. When we arrived, we found a very terrified pony who had no intention of letting someone catch her again. Our director roped her as gently as possible and quickly got a halter on her and was able to get her in the trailer. She was not claimed by her owner, so she came to MHARF for rehabilitation and eventual adoption to a new home. She was underweight and her stiff, harsh hair-coat showed long-term nutritional neglect. Her hooves were overgrown, and she was treated for a severe case of lice. She also had a permanent scar from a too-tight halter that grew into her face. Lisa was mistrustful of humans, so it took some time to get her to stand quietly for body clipping, which was handled in increments so as not to cause too much stress. When she was ready, she had all of her intake veterinary work done, including vaccinations and dental work.  Lisa was adopted in 2023, but has now been returned to MHARF because her adopter could no longer keep her. She is ready to find a committed adoptive home where she will get the love and attention she deserves.

(You may have seen our post in 2023 about the passing of our friend Lisa Brisse, for whom MHARF is a recipient of memorial donations. In Lisa’s memory, we thought this pony should be honored with her name.  Lisa the pony had gone through a lot, but she is a survivor. We think our friend Lisa would be proud.💜💜💜)
