Cheyenne is nice mare in her early to mid 20’s who came to MHARF in 2018 at request of social services because her elderly owner could no longer care for her. She is blind in one eye. Cheyenne is not broke to ride and we feel it would be best at her age to find a home where she can be a companion horse. We are also currently working with her veterinarian to keep an eye on a lump she has developed on her throat. So far it does not seem to be causing her any issues.
Sequoia came to MHARF in late fall of 2018 of at the request of Stearns County social services because her elderly owner could no longer care for her. She has had little handling in the past and came in with some trust issues but she is coming around nicely. She is curious and definitely wants to be friendly. Sequoia was foaled in approximately 2010 and stands 14.2hh. We don’t know her breeding but she is a stock-type horse. She was not broke to ride at intake and was placed with trainer TJ Clibborn for our 2019 Trainer’s Challenge. She spent the spring and summer in training and competed successfully in the Challenge on Sept. 7th with a 6th in Halter class, a 4th in Trail/Obstacle Class and a 5th in Vet/Farrier Class! Sequoia was not adopted at the Challenge so she is still looking for a new home. Due to time restraints, TJ was unable to continue her training after the competition so she has now gone into training with Helen Levering of HJ Horsemanship. Sequoia is a beautiful, sweet mare with a ton of “try”. She has some residual trust issues due to very bad handling in her past but she progressed by leaps and bounds over the summer with TJ’s kind training and we have high hopes for her as she continues on with Helen! (By the way, she marched right over obstacles she had never seen before in both Trail/Obstacle class and Freestyle! Including the trampoline tarp (which looks like a big black hole in the ground…) and a teeter-totter bridge!
Update: Jasper has been adopted! Jasper is a nice gray grade quarter horse gelding who was foaled in approximately 2002. He came to MHARF when his owner could no longer keep him. Jasper is broke to ride but we have not done an assessment on him yet.
Lester is a very nice 2009 bay pony mule gelding who stands 12.2hh. He is not broke to ride but he has good ground manners. Lester originally came in during the 2011 “Fillmore 55” humane case. He had major trust issues at intake but thank you to trainer Deb Anderson he is now very friendly and well-behaved!
UPDATE: 03/31/19: Raven has been ADOPTED!
Raven is a 15.3hh black mare who was foaled in 2002. She is 1/2 Oldenburg, 1/4 Trakehner, and 1/4 Arabian. Raven came to us several years ago in a humane case. She went into training at that time but she developed some rearing issues under saddle that we now feel were probably due to being rushed in her training. We did then adopt her out as a companion horse but her companion sadly had to be put down recently so she was returned to us. Raven is a very nice mare with a sweet temperament. We felt that we wanted to give her another chance with a trainer who would be slow and patient with her. We sent her to Marirose Berner of MJB Horse Training and she is now going under saddle once again and doing very well! You can follow Raven’s training with Marirose on Raven’s Facebook Page.
