Monte (Adopted!)

Monte is a dark bay White Sands mustang who came to MHARF in December of 2016 from South Dakota humane case (from the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros. You can see more details on this case HERE). He was a stud at intake but was gelded shortly after he came to us. He was foaled in approximately 2014 and stands 14.2hh. He has nice thick bone and is a nice mover. Monte was unhandled at intake, but he spent the summer of 2017 in training with the Scott Mork team to compete in our Promise of the Future training competition on September 16th, 2017.

Monte was then placed with trainers Mykayla and Aubreanne Dockter in our 2018 Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse. They competed successfully, winning first in three classes and bringing home the 2018 Trainer’s Challenge Reserve Championship. Monte was adopted at the event and had several good years with his adopter but has now sadly been returned to MHARF due to an injury that has left him as a light riding/companion-only horse.

In May of 2022 Monte was diagnosed with a navicular bone fracture in his right front hoof (fracture is in the wing, not the center). Monte’s previous adopter has provided him with extensive veterinary evaluation and treatment. He is pasture-sound and also suitable for lighter riding. He does trot and canter during turnout with no problems.  He does not require any meds for pain at this time.  He is in foster care/training at Anderson Acres. Sara has been taking him out on trail rides and she reports he is calm and really seems to enjoy the trails  If you are interested in learning more about Monte, please contact us and we will be happy to share more of his extensive veterinary history with you.

Pablo (Graduate of the 2019 Trainer’s Challenge)

Update: Pablo has been Adopted!

Pablo is a 14hh sorrel mustang who came in from a South Dakota humane case (among the 907 horses seized from the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros). Click Here to read more about their intake. He was unhandled at intake. Pablo was foaled in approximately 2015. He had been growing slowly, likely due to malnourishment throughout his younger years but he seems determined now to catch up! He did not have testicles at intake but he did show some stud behavior so we sent bloodwork in to check for testosterone which would mean he was a cryptorchid stallion. The bloodwork came back positive so he did require surgery to remove his undescended testicles in 2017.  Pablo is now a really nice gelding with a very good temperament. He spent the summer of 2018 in in-hand training with JoEllen Kimmel for our 2018 Promise of the Future Training Competition for Young Horses.  Pablo was then placed this past spring with trainer Brenda Boyd in our 2019 Trainer’s Challenge and they took home 6th Overall Highpoint in the competition (including 1st in the Trail/Obstacle class!) Pablo is going well under saddle and is more than ready to find a new home. Brenda says he absolutely loves trails and obstacles. He much prefers to get out on the trail rather than arena work. He is smart and brave. Right now Pablo is 14hh so suitable for a smaller rider, but he will most likely grow more in the next year or so.

You can follow Brenda and Pablo’s training journey throughout the spring and summer on Pablo’s Facebook Page!

Padre (Adopted!)

Padre is a gray White Sands mustang who came to MHARF in December 2016 from a large South Dakota humane case (seized from the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros, transferred to MHARF from Fleet Of Angels. Click Here to read more about this case). He was foaled in approximately 2014 and was a stud at intake but was gelded shortly after. Having no previous handling, Padre did have some trust issues when he came in but was friendly and curious. He spent the summer of 2017 in training with Bob Johnson for our Promise of the Future training competition. He was placed in our 2018 Trainer’s Challenge with trainers Kiley and Jeremy Anderson and was started under saddle. However, in early September 2018 Padre suffered a soft tissue injury and was placed on 8 to 12 weeks of stall rest so he was unable to compete.

After recovery Padre went into training with Marirose Berner of MJB Horse Training. He was adopted in 2020 but his adopter could sadly no longer keep him so he is back at MHARF and continuing his training with MJB Horse Training as of December 2021. We will post more info when we have a full assessment of his current training level.

Padre has a sweet temperament and  is very low in a herd pecking order so he needs a home where he will not be bullied by other horses or have to compete for food. Unlike most mustangs, he is not an “easy keeper” and does require supplemental feed to keep his weight up.

Enrico (Update: Enrico has been adopted!)

Enrico is a smoky buckskin White Sands mustang who came in during a 2016 South Dakota humane case (from the International Society for the Protection of Mustangs and Burros. You can find more details about this case HERE).  He was a stud at intake but is now gelded. Enrico was foaled in approximately 2014 and currently stands 14hh. He was relatively unhandled at intake but spent the summer of 2017 in training with DaeLyn Bucher to compete in our 2017 Promise of the Future training competition on September 16th. Enrico and DaeLyn took home the Grand Championship form the Promise of the Future competition!  You can see Enrico and DaeLyn’s journey Here!

Enrico is a potential candidate for our 2018 Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse.

Starlight (Update 04/04/18 Starlight has been adopted!)

Adoption Pending. Starlight is a 2003 black and white Arabian cross mare who stands 14.2hh. Star does have some metabolic issues and she does require a dry lot and careful feeding. She recently spent the spring and summer of 2017 in training with trainer Melissa Lund for our 2017 Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse.  Starlight and Melissa competed successfully in the Challenge on Sept. 16th and Starlight is now available for adoption!
