Eddy (Update: eddy has been adopted!)

Eddy is a black/bay off the track thoroughbred gelding (racing name Judges Shoes) who was foaled in1998 and stands 16.3hh. Eddy was only raced twice as a 2 year old and was found to be much too laid back for that career. He started his reschooling in 2004 and was used as a jumper. Eddy had not been ridden in approximately 8 years but was very good for a recent assessment. He is very responsive to leg cues. Eddy has had good care throughout his life. He comes to us from a caring owner who can no longer keep him. Eddy recently spent time in training at Wrisky Ranch in Prescott, WI. We have discovered that he has some arthritis, most likely due to his time on the track, so he is not suitable for heavy work.

Dudley (Dudley has been Adopted!)

Dudley was foaled in 2001, and is a 15.3hh bay appendix quarter horse gelding (registered name North Sea Dancer). We were called out to a farm to pick up Dudley and the mare who was his pasture mate. The mare was unfortunately suffering from chronic medical and lameness issues that were beyond treatment. She was down and suffering so we elected to humanely euthanize her on the property (thank you to Dr. Frederickson of Sunrise Equine Veterinary Services for meeting us out there… and giving this mare immediate relief from her pain and suffering). We want to thank the owner of these horses for doing the right thing in calling us and surrendering them to us. She had recently received the horses after the original owner passed away and, not being a horse owner previously, did not have the knowledge or ability to care for them. Dudley had little handling at intake and had some pretty big trust issues. He spent the  summer with trainers Alyssa Bates and Kayla Michael and competed successfully in our 2016 Trainer’s Challenge of the Unwanted Horse. Dudley has a great solid training foundation under saddle thanks to Kayla and Alyssa. He then went to Wrisky Ranch in Prescott, WI,  where he continued his training while in foster care (thank you to everyone at Wrisky Ranch!) As of February 2018 Dudley was back in Minnesota and continuing his training with Marirose Berner of MJB Horse Training. He was adopted but has now been returned because his adopter moved out of state and could not take him along. Dudley was adopted again in 2019 but again he was returned through no fault of his own. He is again back in trianing with Marirose Berner. This big, sweet gelding would LOVE to find his very own person and a permanent home. He is suitable for an confident intermediate to experienced rider.

Daybreaks Abbey Road (Abbey has been adopted!)

Daybreaks Abbey Road is a very nice registered chestnut American Saddlebred mare who was foaled in 2006. Abbey originally came to MHARF from a 2011 Pine County humane case. In July of 2011 she gave birth to a beautiful filly who we named Penny Lane (who was adopted upon weaning).  Daybreaks Abbey Road is a very pretty chestnut mare with an athletic build and a nice temperament . She is very friendly and extremely interested in people. Abbey was started under saddle several years ago but had some time off. She is now back in training with Anna Hill and we have high hopes of finding her a home soon! You can follow Abbey’s training on her Facebook Page!

Dakota

Aged mare with delightful personality, loves to be brushed and loved on. Not for riding, but could do light leading pony rides occasionally. Sound for everyday living. Inquire only if you are aware of and willing to support needs of an aging horse. Low in pecking order. Eating well, holds her weight easily. Must be able to separate for grain(pellets, senior, etc. – nutritional support beyond hay) two or more times a day. Should have own area overnight unless kept only with horse with similar nutritional needs.

Tantrum (aka “Annie”)

Update 11/21/23: Tantrum is now back in training at HH Stables and is ready to find a new home!

Tantrum (also known as “Annie”) is a 2010 14hh Saddlebred pony cross mare who originally came to MHARF during a 2010 humane case. Annie successfully competed in the 2014 Trainers’ Challenge with trainer Francis Nelson. She was adopted after the event but returned in 2020 because her adopter could no longer keep her. She then went to trainer Sarah Lemke for an assessment and refresher training. You can see videos of Annie under saddle on Sarah’s Facebook page Step Up Horsemanship. She was then adopted again but returned recently after suffering an episode of laminitis due to having spent too much time on pasture. We have had her on a diet and dry lot for the summer and she has lost weight and is doing well. She is sound barefoot currently but may need shoes for future riding.  Annie is suitable for an intermediate rider or a confident advanced beginner. She will need a home with someone who is knowledgeable about the needs of an “easy keeper” with a past diagnosis of laminitis. Annie can have plenty of riding days ahead of her as long as she is kept on a proper diet and has regular farrier care.
