Scout and Lily the mini horses

Thank you to Linda for adopting Scout’s mama Lily and ensuring that both she and Scout have a great home!
“Scout, on left, will be 2 soon. He was born with Achondroplasia. He brings sunshine on the cloudiest days. We adopted his mother, Lily, from Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue. Lily was in foal at that time. Patches, his bestie, has been with us for many years. She will be 26.”

“I’m so lucky to have found such an amazing and goofy horse!”

Thank you to Syd for this update on Norman, whom she adopted last summer after meeting him while he was in training with Wendy DeCamp at Essence of Equus: “I am so lucky to have found such an amazing and goofy horse.
(Next year we both plan to attend UW River Falls Wisconsin for Animal and Equine science). He stole my senior photo spotlight! (PS. He has an Instagram @StorminNorman05!!!).”
It looks like Syd and Norman have a bright future together!

We are “incredibly thankful for these boys…”

Three years to the day Tonka’s adopter first saw him posted on Facebook, she sent us this re-creation of the pictures that made her fall in love with him! (Tonka spent several weeks at Anoka Equine Veterinary Services in 2019 and was quite a favorite there.) From Lindsey: “December 19th will always be a date I hold deep in my heart! It was the first time I saw a picture of Tonka through Anoka Equine’s Facebook post. Little did I know he would become my heart and soul ❤️ He is everything and more than I could ever ask for, such a blast to work with and what journey it has been so far! We have done a few novice games, cow sorting and some trail rides. Can’t wait for more to come!” Lindsey’s sister Mandy adopted Skip who came in from the same case as Tonka. The two were buddies (having been together most of their lives, including while in training for the 2020 “Promise of the Future” competition w/ trainers Kaitlyn and Michelle Fedewa). Skip has unfortunately been diagnosed with ringbone. He’s currently undergoing treatment and is also just “living his best life” as Tonka’s companion. We’re very thankful to Lindsey and Mandy for giving these young geldings such a great home. Lindsey also tells us that she and Mandy are “incredibly thankful for these boys and how wonderful they are” and that Tonka and Skip will be together forever.

Sawyer and Paris: a perfect couple!

We received these beautiful photos of MHARF alumni Sawyer and Paris. Sawyer was adopted by Kathleen in 2010 after he came to MHARF as a weanling from a humane case. Paris (formerly known as Pink) came to us just this past September as an owner surrender. It wasn’t until volunteers Janette and Craig arrived to pick her up that we knew how extremely lame she was. She was taken to Anoka Equine Veterinary Services where they confirmed she had a severe case of stringhalt. She underwent tendonectomy surgery to correct this condition (which was most likely due to an old injury, as indicated by the amount of scar tissue on that leg). And though Paris will still never be a riding horse, the surgery did make her a lot more comfortable and allow her to move much more easily. Kathleen reports that Paris moves even better when she is out in the pasture relaxing and playing with Sawyer. Kathleen also says, “Paris and Sawyer are the admired ’neighborhood couple!’ I let them out into the big pasture today. That Paris is quite the explorer and Sawyer is quite the guy in love! It’s delightful. It’s sweet: she has a left blue eye; Sawyer has a right blue eye.”
Sounds like a perfect match!

Max Fits Right In!

Thank you to Jessica for these photos of her adopted MHARF mini gelding Max (formerly called Shadow) and his mini buddies. Jessica adopted Max in 2020 and he fit right into his great new home!
