“I love him so much!”

September 6, 2022

This happy ending was a long time in the making! This is Dollar who originally came to MHARF during a 2017 humane case. He’d had poor farrier care and was plagued with very thin soles and recurring hoof abscesses. Holly took him in as a foster horse in 2018 and worked diligently with her veterinarian and farrier to get him back to soundness. In 2020, she was so attached to him she decided to adopt him even though he was still having hoof issues. By 2021, he was much better and back into light riding. Now, as of summer of 2022, Holly reports Dollar is completely sound and back to work:

“Dollar at his lesson; he is finally a sound horse with no more abscesses! He is such a good boy. I love him so much! Dynamite Hoof Products, a good diet, and a good farrier are what saved this horse.”
Thank you to Holly and everyone else who helped get this beautiful gelding back on track to being a healthy and happy riding partner!

Thank you to AMF Équitation, LLC for this update on Galileo, who was adopted from MHARF in 2019:
“Just a quick note to send you some photos of Galileo at our most recent dressage schooling show last weekend.
He and his little friend, 6 yo Adaline, came 2nd in their – highly contested 😉 – walk/trot leadline class. As usual, he took great care of his rider and didn’t put a hoof wrong! Such a sweet boy.”

Congratulations to Bella and her adopted MHARF horses, Ketch and C.J. (Cactus Jack) on a successful county fair season! We received this great update from Bella, including photos of the story boards she put on the stall fronts. What a wonderful way to represent rescue horses!

“Hello, I just wanted to share some photos from the Dakota County Fair and let you know how we did:). First off, I’m so incredibly proud of my boys! They did great for it being there first show! Although Showmanship did not go as planned for me and ketch, we were able to fully complete the pattern. C.J. and I entered the Horse Training Class and ended up getting a blue ribbon, along with Scoring 99/100 on our face-to-face demonstration and interview with the Judge! She had many complements to give about him:)
Ketch and I entered in the trail class and did the course in-hand. Because this is typically a riding class, we didn’t get judged, but he did complete the course effortlessly. A lot of the obstacles he had never seen before, and he did them perfectly. He received complements from the Judge!

Overall, I’m very happy with the results. There is LOTS of room for improvement, but I am so grateful to you guys for giving me the opportunity to work with these incredibly talented and amazing horses. Look out Dakota County Fair: we’ll be back next year!!!

We also ran into a MHARF horse who was adopted a couple of years ago. His Name was Flick and he’s a palomino; he’s doing great with barrels and his new owner. Flick and Ketch were stall mates and got to enjoy a couple bags of hay together. I was so glad to see other members of the MHARF family giving their horses a chance to be a star!
Thank you again and enjoy the pics!”

We just received this great update on Addi who was adopted from MHARF last December. Thank you to Mary and family, and thank you to Longstocking Stables – Anna Hill for the help with a training assessment and placement:
“I adopted Addi in December of 2021 and she’s been a wonderful addition to our horse family. Addi is 21 and we don’t know much about her past but occasionally we get a clue. She rates a cow perfectly; she may have been a rope horse. It was fun to discover she knew her way around a cow. Addi’s real superpower is being the perfect trail horse, especially for the kids. She loves to be pampered and loved on by them.”

We were very sad to hear from Angela that she had to make the decision to put her beloved MHARF horse Bill down last week. Bill originally came to MHARF in 2014 in an abandonment case. We know this was an incredibly tough decision and we are so thankful to Angela for taking such good care of Bill and for making the kindest choice for him:
“I struggled long and hard with this decision, but in the end it was about his quality of life not quantity and he was in pain that meds were no longer helping. Thank you so much for the opportunity to help and love this amazing boy! I will cherish all the memories and be appreciative that he is no longer hurting or struggling.
Many thanks and love,
Angela”

Our hearts go out to Catherine and Lynn on the loss of their 28-year-old mare, Violet. Violet originally came to MHARF in a March 2013 humane case and was adopted by Catherine and Lynn a few months later. She led an ideal life on their beautiful farm with several other adopted MHARF horses:

“Today, we had to say goodbye to Violet, the matriarch of our herd. We are heartbroken but it was a beautiful morning, she was relaxed and happy with a full belly. She left peacefully surrounded by the people who loved her dearly and her faithful little herd of MHARF mares, Perdita, Norma and Paloma. Violet was an amazing horse. She was gentle, affectionate, playful and also a fierce, wise alpha mare. Although her body was failing, her spirit never dimmed. She was bossing the others around right up to her last day. We are grateful for the honor of being her care takers for the past nine years. She will be missed. Thanks to all of you in the MHARF family who brought her to us.
Violets Staff,
Catherine and Lynn”
Thank YOU, Catherine and Lynn, for giving Violet such a loving home!
