Ola (Adopted)

Update 07/16/22: Ola has been ADOPTED!

Meet Ola the circus pony. Ola, who was part of a traveling circus touring Minnesota in May 2022, came in to MHARF as an owner surrender because he was in need of surgery for scirrhous cord (a bacterial infection and fibrosis of the spermatic cord remnant which can be a complication of castration surgery). There was no way for Ola to have the surgery and stall rest and recovery time he needed if he remained with the traveling circus. He has now had the surgery at Anoka Equine Veterinary Services where they removed a mass of infected tissue the size of a Nerf football!  We would like to thank his owners for having his best interest in mind and making sure he gets the care he needs. Thank you also to Dr. Nancy Peterson for her assistance in helping Ola.  If you’d like to make a donation to help pay for Ola’s surgery and recovery, we would greatly appreciate any help! You can use this link to give through PayPal Giving Fund paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/1696087

Ola won’t be available for adoption until after he has had plenty of time to recover with stall rest. Ola is a Welsh pony cross gelding who was foaled in approximately 2012.

Update 07/10/22: Ola has recovered well from his surgery. He still requires some aftercare to keep the swelling down, but he is now ready to go to a new home.  We already have several applicants to adopt Ola, so he should be placed soon.

Dove (Adopted)

Dove is a roan mare who was foaled in approximately 2008. She came to MHARF in an April 2022 Kanabec County humane case. Dove has put on some weight and she is now in a foster home where she is being assessed for training level. So far her foster person/trainer Jenny says she is very calm and stands well for everything. She has been ridden in the arena, on the road around the farm, and has traveled off the farm to go out on the trails. She was excellent on the trail, even leading for awhile! Dove is a really nice mare with an excellent temperament and is suitable for a confident advanced beginner rider and up.

Piper (Adopted)

Piper is a 2020 POA (Shetland Pony x Appaloosa) mare who came in during an April 2022 Kanabec County humane case. She is a 2-year-old and is not started under saddle. She is available for adoption and should go to a home with experience with young horses.

Lark (Adopted)

Lark is a young sorrel gelding (foaled in approximately 2018) who came in during an April 2022 Kanabec County humane case. He has been in our rehab program while he had his intake vet work don, put on weight, and completed his treatment for lice. He is now looking much better and is on the list for training assessment as soon as we have a training opening.

Jay (Adopted)

Jay is a paint gelding who was foaled in approximately 2010. He came in during an April 2020 Kanabec County humane case. Jay spent quite a bit of time in our rehab program because his hooves were badly neglected in the past. He needed time to grow out a damaged hoof wall that was the result of what must have been a very large abscess that went untreated. Radiographs also showed that he has had a history of laminitis.  Jay has recently had a specialty shoe put on his previously damaged hoof. He is currently pasture-sound, comfortable, and not in need of any special care other than regular professional farrier care and the right nutrition for a horse with his history of laminitis. Jay is very well broke and could be used for light riding. He has an excellent temperament and is very easy to have around.
