DJ (DJ has been Adopted!)

Update 12/29/18: DJ has been Adopted!

DJ is a dun grade Arabian gelding who was foaled in early 2017. He came to MHARF in a December 2017 humane case. He was found to have a vitamin e an selenium deficiency, was treated and is doing very well. He was relatively unhandled at intake but he is went into training for our 2018 Promise of the Future Training Competition with the Wrisky Ranch Team (Renee and Theadora Hendrickson and Brandy and Jaycie Navarro). He competed successfully at the event on September 22nd. and took 5th Overall High Point. DJ did cut his leg in a trailer accident on the way to the event but Dr. Marta from Anoka Equine was there to stitch him up and he was able to compete with no problem. DJ’s sutures have now been removed and he has healed up just fine! You can follow DJ’s training on his Facebook Page!

Della

Della is a 14.2hh 2008 chestnut Arabian mare who came in from a December 2017 case. She was in foal at intake and gave birth to a chestnut colt on April 29th, 2018. Della had some severe trust issues at intake due to very poor handling in her past. (Thank you to Tara Perkins of Perquestrian Acres for her consistent and caring work on helping Della to start overcoming these issues).

Della was placed with trainer Sarah Lemke in our 2020 Trainer’s Challenge. She spent the spring and summer in training and competed successfully with Sarah at the competition in September, taking home 4th Overall Highpoint and 1st in the Trail/Obstacle class! Della was adopted but was returned to MHARF  in 2022 because her adopter could very sadly no longer keep her. Della is a nice, athletic mare with a lot of energy. She is currently back in training with Marirose Berner of MJB Horse Training. She is suitable for a confident intermediate rider and up. Marirose thinks she will be a great trail horse. She is brave and enjoys obstacles and using her mind.

DeNiro (DeNiro has been Adopted!)

DeNiro is a chestnut Arabian gelding from a recent December 2017 case. He stands 14.2hh and was foaled in approximately 2002. We believe he was a herd sire for many years and was gelded recently.  DeNiro had  some trust issues due to past mishandling and conflicting training methods, but he has turned into a friendly horse who loves attention! He was started under saddle during the summer of 2018 by Ralea Casperson of RKC Dressage, LLC. As of October 2018 he is continuing his training at Wrisky Ranch. He is suitable right now for a confident intermediate to advanced rider. DeNiro is a brave horse with a good work ethic. He is also a beautiful mover!

Delaney (update 04/2018 Delaney has been transferred to another organization)

Update: Delaney has been transferred to assisting organization, Pony Tales Rescue in Wisconsin.

Delaney is a bay Arabian filly who was foaled in approximately 2016. She came in recently from a December 2017 case. She had been kept with several stallions and  despite her young age will need to be vet checked for pregnancy. We will have more info after her vet appointment!

Faith (Adopted)

Faith is 15.2hh a palomino stock-type mare (foaled in approximately 2006) who originally came to MHARF from a December 2017 humane case. At intake time she had a weanling aged filly (Xena) at her side and was pregnant again. In spring of 2018 she gave birth to a premature colt who unfortunately did not survive despite receiving immediate emergency veterinary care. Faith was given several months to recover before being assessed as broke to ride and suitable for an intermediate rider and up. She was then adopted for the first time but returned because her adopter could no longer keep her. In spring of 2022, she had refresher training with Jenna S Horse Training and was adopted for the second time but was returned because she bucked under saddle on two occasions and was not getting along with her companion horse. When assessed by a trainer this past summer, she did very well at walk and trot, but did crow hop at the canter under saddle. We are currently assessing her for pain or saddle fit issues that may be causing this.  Hopefully we can solve this problem and make her available for adoption as a riding horse. She would be suitable for a confident intermediate and up rider who is looking for a trail or western pleasure horse (no gaming, jumping or higher impact sports). Faith has thin soles and should have front shoes or boots for trail riding due. Faith does tend to be the boss in a herd.

Update 02/09/24: We have moved Faith back into our rehabilitation program for now as we work with her veterinarian at AEVS to address intermittent soreness issues. She is currently receiving adequan injections and has shown much improvement. Thank you so much to Wendy at Essence of Equus for working with Faith and helping us determine the best path forward for her!
